New Market Homebuyers founder, Shawn Bounds, has been involved in real estate for over 35 years, from working for an investor in group homes, to owning a landscaping company, founding a real estate appraisal company, and over 20 years as real estate investor. Shawn’s unique skill set, from construction experience to real estate valuation, are particularly suited to real estate investing. While working in high school for an investor who specialized in group homes, Shawn learned first-hand how to rehab houses and the economics of investing in real estate. After college, he started a landscaping company which required a construction license for permitting, and his construction knowledge flourished. In 1993, he purchased his first house, and after renovation, sold it for a profit of $54,000.
With the proceeds from the sale of the house and the landscaping company, Shawn went back to school for his MBA, graduating first in his class and was awarded the “Outstanding Graduate Student” award. After a stint as an apprentice in a well-respected appraisal firm, he earned a Certified Residential Appraisal license and started an appraisal company. With an extensive knowledge of construction, valuation, and finance, Shawn’s unique skill positioned him to have the tools to start purchasing homes to rehab on a larger scale. With those first projects, he observed the impact that the renovation of just one home could have in creating a new market within a neighborhood. And that’s how New Market Homebuyers came to be. Over the last 20 years, New Market Homebuyers has expanded into a variety of real estate ventures, including the development of raw land and agricultural land, eminent domain experience, assembling an expansive rental portfolio, operating short-term vacation rentals, joint ventures, home expansions, and new construction. More than 100 homes later, we continue to improve neighborhoods, Creating A New Market, One Home At A Time
